Ive been playing with the Windows 7 Build 7000 (Beta 1) for several days now, and Ive come to the conclusion that like Vista, its not a major improvement over what most users are currently experiencing with Windows XP, and is not really a huge improvement over Vista SP1. In a number of cases, I think theyve gone even further down the user rejection hole.
The new ideas for pay-as-you-go (pay-per-use) that Microsoft is brewing is also a bad omen.

Let's just cut to the chase here: Windows 7 is built on top of Windows Vista. It doesn't roll back the major changes that Vista made; it doesn't reduce system requirements (for example, it still needs Direct3D graphics and 1 GB RAM to be worthwhile), it doesn't undo security decisions like UAC, and, except for specific scenarios like booting, it doesn't really perform significantly better.
stupid newbies thinking windows 7 beta is any different from the current Vista. The majority of changes are in the UI and bundled apps (WMP12 etc.) *

Vista BETA: Pile of steaming cr*p.
Vista initial release: Not much better than the BETA.
Vista SP1: Majority of problems fixed by the time of this release, people still hate Vista because of the BETA and initial release.
Vista SP2/Windows 7 BETA: Some UI upgrades. BETA quality software that works just like expected from a BETA (read: poorly). People love it.
Mojave Experiment.
Conclusion: Consumer sheep *
